Hunt for armed robber who fled court, and has city link

AN ARMED robber who has admitted to three knife-point attacks on post offices may have fled to Liverpool.

Gareth Williams, 36, over-powered court security staff and fled on foot from Mold Crown Court, North Wales.

Officers fear Williams may return to his home address on Anfield Road.

Merseyside Police say they are aware of his escape and are “actively trying to arrest” him.

Williams had admitted a number of offences including robbery and fraud at a preliminary hearing on November 21 and was due to be sentenced on Tuesday.

But he fled the courthouse and is thought to have stolen a blue Vauxhall Astra, N125 CEY, which he may have driven to his north Liverpool family home. He was first arrested there in November.

Merseyside Police Insp Michael Jarman said last night: “We are aware of this man escaping. We’re actively trying to arrest him.

“We know where his home address is and we know the car he was driving. We are actively looking for him.”

Williams admitted to three terrifying robberies in Chester and North Wales that netted around £11,500.

They were at a sub Post Office at Kelsall Road in Ashton near Chester on November 8, at two others in October in Anglesey and near Mold.
