DOZENS of families attended a traditional Christmas Day mass in Liverpool’s Metropolitan Cathedral yesterday.

Father José MarieSalvosa led the service.

His Christmas message centred on the importance of being a member of the Christian family.

Originally from the Philippines, Fr Salvosa, 49, said it was important to stress “the importance and significance of being a member of the family.

He added: “I believe in the spirit of the family.

“St John the Baptist is always saying that we should understand that Christ is born within our midsts, and because of that we celebrate Christmas every day.”

The congregation sang a collection of carols including Away in a Manger, O Come All Ye Faithful and Once in Royal David’s City.
