Metropolitan Cathedral hosts service of celebration before bells ring in the New Year

LIVERPOOL’S Metropolitan Cathedral hosts a service of prayer and reflection tonight from 11.15pm.

The service has been organised by both the city’s cathedrals and will be led by the Archbishop of Liverpool, the Most Rev Patrick Kelly, who said: “We want the service to be a fitting celebration on what is a night of festivity.

“We want to offer something which may be a little bit quieter with more space for people to reflect on the last year and look to the coming year with hope. As many families are facing a more uncertain future, we want to express a sense of deep concern for one another, and a confidence that’s based not on what we can do by ourselves but what we can do if we’re together.”

The service is timed to finish at midnight when the bells of both cathedrals will ring out in celebration to welcome 2009.

All are welcome to come along to the service, and no tickets are necessary to attend.
