“But they wouldn’t.
“When the IRA bombed Manchester or London, the British government didn’t launch huge bombing attacks on West Belfast.
“If this happened anywhere else, or in Europe, it would be an international outrage.”
The Liverpool protest was one of 18 being held across the country to try to stop the Israeli attacks.
They followed several days of smaller demonstrations around the country, including outside the Israeli Embassy, in West London.
In Trafalgar Square, where the largest protest was held, the demonstrators hurled fireworks and set Israeli flags on fire. Yesterday, the ninth day of the conflict, Israeli troops surrounded Gaza City, effectively cutting the territory in two as both sides announced casualties.
More than 400 Gazans have been killed and some 1,700 wounded since Israel embarked on its aerial campaign. Many world leaders have called for a ceasefire, while Israel’s government has said it is defending its citizens from Palestinian rocket attacks.
Merseyside Stop the War Coalition, alongside CND, Palestine Solidarity Campaign and the British Muslim Initiative, are organising another protest this Saturday.
The protest will take place in London with a march past the Israeli Embassy.
Coaches are departing from Liverpool, with tickets costing £15 and £20, and are available from News From Nowhere Bookshop, Bold Street.
