Liverpool Archbishop prepares for visit to Holy Land

THE Archbishop of Liverpool is to lead an international delegation to the Holy Land later this week. The announcement came as Israel continued its pounding of Gaza.

During his week-long tour, the Most Rev Patrick Kelly will visit Bethlehem and Jerusalem.

The Archbishop is Vice President of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of England and Wales, and will be leading a group of European and North American Bishops to the Holy Land from Friday to January 15 .

He said: “Everyone I meet at this time speaks with immense sadness of the suffering and destruction taking place in Gaza and the fears of the people in Israel because of rocket attacks.

“Having visited the Holy Land many times and Gaza once, this sadness reflects my own heart at this time.
