Man critically ill after being battered by gang

A man who tried to retrieve his brother’s stolen bicycle was battered by a gang in Liverpool and is in a critical condition in hospital.

Sean Finnan, 22, was trying to help his 14-year-old brother get his Christmas present back when he made a journey to Stockbridge Village on Monday evening.

The Silver Fox professional mountain bike was stolen on January 4 when the boy was playing in his home village of Childwall with friends and some boys he did not know.

One of them took the bicycle.

Mr Finnan made several phone calls to trace the bike and went to get it back with a friend but he was attacked by a gang of several youths and men.

He was stabbed in the leg, hit across the head with a steel bar and suffered a cardiac arrest.

When his friend tried to help he was threatened by someone with a gun.

Detective Chief Inspector Tim Keelan said: “This is obviously a very callous, serious and horrendous attack.

“We are seeking witnesses to what happened and if anyone saw these young men, aged probably between 16 and 24, to come forward.”
