A MERSEYSIDE police officer could be facing jail after admitted intending to supply almost 1kg of cannabis.
PC Sayful Islam, of Cranbourne Road, Wavertree, was arrested after Cheshire Police stopped him on the M6 as he drove back to Liverpool from Birmingham.
Officers found the drugs in the boot of his car.
Islam, who is currently suspended from the force, appeared at Liverpool Crown Court yesterday.
Dressed smartly in a suit, he pleaded guilty to one charge of possessing the drugs with intent to supply on September 6.
The 25-year-old pleaded guilty on the basis that he had been paid by his co-accused Ahmed Parry, 23, of Irwell Close, Aigburth, to drive the car.
But prosecutor Paul Greaney said this claim was unacceptable to the crown.
He added: “These two defendants were jointly involved in the enterprise of bringing drugs from Walsall to Liverpool on the basis it could be sold commercially.”
It is believed that Islam was intent on selling the drugs after he returned from Walsall in the Midlands.
Mr Greaney added that there was no evidence to suggest Islam had been involved in drug trafficking incidents on other occasions.
And he accepted that Parry could have had the main role in the deal because he was the one who had obtained the drugs.
Parry also has a previous drug conviction.
He appeared via video-link from HMP Norwich, where he is facing other matters, and also pleaded guilty to possessing drugs with intent to supply.
Islam was bailed to re-appear on February 16 when he will be sentenced.
He has already surrendered his travel documents.
He was warned by Judge Gerald Clifton that he could face a prison sentence.
The judge said: “The fact that I give you bail is not meant to be any indication of any sentenced intended.
“The court will be considering a custodial sentence.”
