Two held after Kirkby pub death

AN 18-YEAR-OLD man collapsed and died in front of horrified customers at a Merseyside pub yesterday, after he was assaulted in the street outside.

Officers were called to the Kingfisher pub, in Bewley Drive, Kirkby, shortly after 5pm yesterday.

Police said it was thought the man went to the pub and collapsed after he was assaulted nearby.

An ambulance crew took the man to Aintree hospital, where he later died.

It is not known at this stage what injuries the man received, but Merseyside Regional Ambulance Service said they were “severe.”

A Merseyside Police spokeswoman said: “Detectives are currently piecing together the events that took place before the man’s death.

“It is unclear at this stage as to the cause of the man’s death, and no motive has been established.”

The spokeswoman said a post-mortem will be carried out.

Last night, the area around the pub was cordoned off for forensic examination, police were speaking to witnesses and patrols were stepped up.

Anyone with information or anyone who witnessed the incident should call Merseyside police on 0151 777 6565.

TWO 17-year-old youths from the Kirkby area have been arrested on suspicion of murder in connection with the incident.
