“I am supporting the campaign because this is a valuable industry upon which thousands of jobs depend.

“The Government must continue to play its part to protect British jobs as far as possible.”

Merseyside’s Euro-MP Chris Davies has also given his backing to the campaign.

He said: “Over the past few months I have helped negotiate special arrangements for reducing carbon dioxide emissions from new cars that can ensure that Jaguar Land Rover is able to meet higher environmental standards that are vital for the long term.

“With the credit markets seized up, the next few months will be difficult. The North West needs to maintain a strong manufacturing sector and the Government cannot afford to turn its back on Jaguar Land Rover.”
