Brian Barwick returns to his Liverpool university as professor

FORMER FA chief executive Brian Barwick has been appointed a professor at the University of Liverpool.

Prof Barwick, who graduated from the university in economics in 1975, will lecture part-time at the management school, starting in February.

He will lead seminars and supervise students as part of the Liverpool MBA Football Industries programme, while boosting the department’s links across the world.

After graduating, Prof Barwick joined the BBC and left as head of sport, to become controller of sport at ITV and was responsible for launching the ITV2 channel in 1998.

In 2005 he became chief executive of the Football Association during which he oversaw the opening of Wembley Stadium.
