LIVERPOOL’S iconic waterfront has seldom looked better than in the dramatic pictures of the weekend’s Transition event marking the end of the city’s reign as Capital of Culture.

They are just a few of the pictures posted on Flickr, the Daily Post’s photo sharing group.

While the night sky was filled with fireworks over the River Mersey, the Three Graces were bathed in light, as these pictures taken by Peter Carr and Cassini2008 show.

Meanwhile, another contributor, the-northshore, took this picture of Batala, a Brazilian-style percussion band taking part in the last night of Capital of Culture celebrations at the Liverpool One development.

The Transition event was billed as the “People’s Celebration” to mark the end of one of the most successful Capital of Culture years ever.

It included a sound, light and visual review of Liverpool’s history across huge screens on the waterfront, followed by a magnificent pyrotechnic finale from ships on the river.

As well as the festivities at the Pier Head, a number of venues such as Tate Liverpool, the Bluecoat, and Merseyside Maritime Museum stayed open late with free entertainment.

There was also street theatre, music, dance and art.
