A MERSEYSIDE police officer was injured last night after a stolen car was driven at him.
The incident occurred in Halewood at 7.30pm while detectives were carrying out an operation to target vehicle theft.
The officers, who were in an unmarked car, stopped two cars, a VW Golf and a Nissan Qashqai, in Foxhill Lane.
When they approached the cars, the occupants of the VW Golf got out and fled the scene.
The driver of the Qashqai attempted to drive off, and two officers were forced to jump into a ditch to avoid being run over by the car in the narrow lane.
But a third officer was clipped by the vehicle as he tried to get out of the way. The occupants of the Qashqai then abandoned the vehicle and escaped.
The injured officer received a minor injury to his knee and was taken to hospital.
Police said the two cars were both found to have been stolen and had false number plates.
POLICE last night arrested two youths, a 16-year-old from Speke, and a 17-year-old from Netherley, in connection with the incident.
