Other e-mail mishaps

AN EXCHANGE of emails between a millionaire property magnate and a tour guide over the £100m transformation of Liverpool’s Hope Street led to legal and police advice being sought in 2008.

It followed approval of a controversial plan to flatten and replace the much-loved Josephine Butler House at the junction with Myrtle Street. Beatles tour guide Philip Coppell expressed his disgust to Maghull Developments managing director Michael Hanlon.

He launched a tirade of foul mouthed abuse in an email reply, including calling Mr Coppell a “f*****g ignorant pig”. It went on “we could always make room for you in the foundations”. The firm said it was in response to a “grossly offensive and defamatory” email from Mr Coppell.

AS the World Trade Centre crumbled on September 11, 2001, Transport Secretary Stephen Byers’ special adviser Jo Moore emailed colleagues suggesting it was a good day to bury bad news.

She lost her job over accusations she made a similar suggestion for the day of Princess Margaret’s funeral.

DEVON schoolgirl Claire McDonald received emails of top secret information from the Pentagon – accidentally added to a round robin list. One offered advice to the UK on how to prevent secrets from being leaked.
