A FORMER bank worker who turned to drugs after getting in to debt has been jailed for four years.
Liverpool Crown Court heard Allan Williams, 38, held a responsible job with Barclay’s Bank for more than four years.
He left in September 2006 because of ill-health. But in June 2008, when police searched his Wallasey house they found cocaine and cannabis.
Geoffrey Fryar, prosecuting, told the court another man inside the house admitted Williams had just sold him some cannabis.
When they searched his property, officers found 64g of cocaine and nearly 32g of cannabis.
Drug paraphernalia was also found, as well as £240 and glucose, which can be used to cut cocaine.
Williams, of Upper Rice Lane, Wallasey, admitted possessing cocaine with intent to supply, possessing cannabis with intent to supply and supplying cannabis.
Paul Wood, defending, said Williams had resorted to selling the drugs to try and pay off nearly £30,000 worth of debts.
Williams was jailed for four years.
Mr Wood told the court: “He held a responsible position with Barclay’s Bank until September, 2006. After four years’ employment he had to leave that position because of ill-health.
“He is still being treated for depression.”
He added that Williams had got into debt after the break-down of his previous relationship and had lost money from the sale of their house.
His new partner is expecting a baby in August. She wept as he was led away.
