Lawyer joins board of professional journal

A LIVERPOOL barrister is celebrating after being selected to joining the editorial board of the Journal of Personal Injury Law (JPIL).

Matthew Stockwell, who is a member of the India Buildings chambers, will join an unrivalled team of legal experts including senior barristers, solicitors and academics.

Published by Sweet and Maxwell, the journal is said to be the pre-eminent legal periodical in its field.

Mr Stockwell is the only North West representative.

He said the appointment would give him the opportunity “to highlight the issues affecting local people who have suffered misfortune at the hands of others”.

The Journal is published in conjunction with the Association of Personal Injury Lawyers (APIL), an independent, not-for-profit organisation, which campaigns for better legal protection and access to justice for people who are injured or become ill through no fault of their own.

Mr Stockwell added: “One of APIL’s great achievements has been to promote the exchange of information, learning and ideas to help innocent accident victims receive fair compensation.

“JPIL is a uniquely important part of that work.”

In April, 2007, Mr Stockwell became the youngest person elected to APIL’s national governing committee.
