THE Christmas drink drive campaign saw a reduction in the number of motorists caught over the limit in Lancashire.
During the month long campaign in December, 10,629 breath tests were administered with 263 people either failing or refusing a test.
This represented a 2.5% rate in failure/refusal compared to 3.3% last year. It was also a significant improvement on the summer campaign, where the figure was 4.6%.
Lancashire police Assistant Chief Constable Andy Cooke said: “Although we must not get carried away, we have to be pleased that these results are better than last year.
“We have found that there is a direct link between the number of breath tests carried out and the number of deaths on the road attributable to drink driving.”
