ABSTRACT art is all around us in Liverpool – you just have to know where to look. The imaginative photographers that contribute to our online gallery have uploaded some intriguing shots this week.
Jennifer Allanson, who contributes as e chihuahua, has had several of her fellow snappers scratching their heads since she added her scarlet creation, Attention to Detail.
She said: “It was only taken with a point and click.
“As to what it is – it’s an art installation at The Kazimier, in Wolstenholme Square.
“In the ceiling on the balcony, there is chute or chimney space lined with fabric and beautifully lit with the low torso of a mannequin hanging in it.
“I'd been several times and not seen it, then I ended up sitting on a sofa, looked up and this was above my head. You can't see it from any other viewpoint in the building.” Meanwhile Colin Stephens, also known as the Image Maker online, has used cool blues to create a soft geometric image.
It is a detail that sits alongside a series of terrific wide-angled shots taken inside Liverpool Metropolitan Cathedral.
Mr Stephens said: “As to how I go about selecting pics like this, I look for interesting lighting, colours, angles.
“This particular shot was of a window almost tucked out of the way at the cathedral. But it has the window pattern, several shades of blue, and a real deep richness that I find attractive.
“I'm a keen photographer, and by using Flickr I have developed my sense of what makes a good picture, and this one has done quite well so far.”
Radisson, by Brian Mason, and Liverpool One, by The Northshore, have repeated the trick.
The shots are completely abstract and Radisson, at first glance when scanning the thumbnail gallery, looks like a 1950s-style microphone, as used by the likes of Elvis Presley and Buddy Holly.
They are simply novel angles of sights we have all taken in on a very regular basis.
Meanwhile, mobilevirgin was hot off the mark in getting a terrific shot of the dragon train that pranced from Leece Street to Great George’s Square, during the Chinese New Year celebrations yesterday.
