ONE of Liverpool’s ugliest buildings will only continue to blight the skyline for a couple more days
Concourse House, in Lime Street, is now more than half demolished and is expected to be completely bulldozed within days.
The 13-storey building had masked the front of Lime Street Station, but now the arched gable end of the listed Victorian station building will be revealed, creating a new public area, greatly improved pedestrian access to the station, and better links to the city’s cultural quarter.
During 2008, the 1960s structure was wrapped with huge banners promoting Capital of Culture.
English Partnerships aims to finish the project to re-landscape the land in front of the Victorian station in spring next year. There will be significantly improved direct access to the station, with gentle slopes which the designers say will avoid the steep hill of Skelhorne Street and the station side entrance, and make the station much more easily accessible to everyone.
The design also includes tree planting, using a raised stone planter with lime trees.
