Decision day approaches for Liverpool Royal Court design

“At the moment we are putting all the plans in place. We estimate the cost of the works to be somewhere between £5m and £10m.

“Once we have decided on a winning design, we will know how much money we need to raise. We have set up the Royal Court Trust in order to raise money.

“As for a date for starting the works, it will depend on the particular design chosen and how long it takes to raise the money. It will all become clearer as we progress.”

Architecture firms from round the world last year entered a Royal Institute of British Architect (RIBA) competition for the regeneration of the building, and to improve facilities and access.

The RIBA customised “Architruck” will pull up at St George’s Plateau at 1pm today and will display the short-listed ideas until February 27. Members of the public will have an opportunity to give feedback. At the end of February, judges will examine the submissions from architects with a view to selecting a winning design.

The Royal Court was built in 1938 and has attracted a wide range of shows.
