A MERSEYSIDE Primary School yesterday celebrated the surprise arrival of their new Superlambanana following her recent makeover at Liverpool Hope University.
“Colours of Hope”, an exact replica of the original Superlambanana that was sited at the university during Capital of Culture year, arrived during morning assembly.
After an assembly based on a local man’s photographs of 110 Superlambanana, pupils at St Jerome’s Catholic Primary School, in Formby, were escorted outside for the surprise delivery of their very own Superlambanana.
Colours of Hope was originally designed by St Jerome’s student Lauren Cheston.
Liz Peat, headteacher of St Jerome’s, said: “We are all looking forward to the arrival of our very own Superlambanana.
“It is a wonderful piece of modern art which will be put on display in the school grounds to be loved and cared for by the whole school community.
“The competition to design one as part of the Liverpool 08 celebrations sparked the imagination of our youngsters and we were all thrilled when Lauren’s Colours of Hope design was chosen as the winner.”
Lauren, who was a year 6 pupil at St Jerome’s, won a regional competition to design one of the 120 Superlambanana that were on display across Merseyside and the prize for the school was to win a Superlambanana for permanent display.
The reproduction was painted by fine art and design students at Liverpool Hope University, Emma Detlaff and Delyn Groll.
