AN AMATEUR designer has won a competition to create a commemorative piece of jewellery to celebrate Liverpool’s year as European Capital of Culture
Maggie Lingard, of Thingwall, submitted her design for a brooch called The Children of Liverpool, representing the city’s past, present and future.
It shows four children holding up symbols of Liverpool including a Liver Bird and the two cathedrals.
Ms Lingard was one of more than 100 people who entered the competition, with the winning design being chosen by public vote from a shortlist.
The brooch was created by Boodles and is now on display at their city centre store until February 28. It will then form part of a display in the new Museum of Liverpool when it opens next year.
Ms Lingard said: “I have no professional experience of designing jewellery except to say that I have always loved jewellery, and designs have a habit of popping into my head.
“Liverpool is a fabulous city and I am proud to have created a small legacy of its Capital of Culture year, especially as it has been chosen by public vote.”
