Merseyside councils asked to open up to a dozen more gipsy sites

Tara Park, on Oil Street, off Liverpool's Dock Road, has 14 pitches, while Sefton's Broad Lane site has 16 pitches in Formby.

If the new sites are similar in size and hold around 15 caravans, the city region would need to find another 12 sites to satisfy the need for the extra 180 extra pitches.

4NW say Sefton needs to find space for another 30 pitches, which could mean two new sites, while Liverpool is being asked to accommodate another 25 pitches.

There are no permanent, authorised pitches in either Knowsley or Wirral. But, under the plans, they would have to open sites with space for at least 10 pitches.

Halton needs to add provide an extra 60 pitches, in addition to the 36 existing ones, while St Helens would need to increase from 70 pitches to 115. Chester and Cheshire West could need five extra sites with space for 80 caravans, on top of its 55 pitches.

Warrington may have to almost treble its number of pitches from 22 to 57.

4NW will submitting the strategy to the Government in July and opening a 12-week formal public consultation.
