Blast from the past welcomes passengers to Chester
EIGHT Centurions and two Roman horn players were at Chester train station to welcome passengers stepping off the train marking the launch of a new hourly timetable between the city and London.
Porters from the nearby Queen Hotel were on hand to help passengers off the train while waiters offered them freshly-baked biscuits.
It is hoped this hourly weekday service will open up Chester and Cheshire to new markets and help position the region as an accessible city break destination to people living in the South East.
There will also be a weekend service, and plans are already well advanced for a summer campaign to encourage people to make the most of the new opportunities to visit the area.
Chester will be used as the focus for the Cheshire-wide campaign, backed by Virgin Trains, Chester Zoo, Blue Planet, Chester City Management, Cheshire Oaks and Chester Racecourse.
