KEITH CHEGWIN launched a new superstore in Liverpool city centre yesterday.

The TV personality donned a Tesco uniform and helped stack shelves and serve shoppers before taking part in the official ribbon cutting.

In return for his help, the company donated £1,000 to the Make a Wish Foundation that Chegwin represents.

Bootle-born Chegwin said: “I’ve been with the Make a Wish Foundation for 21 years and am now Patron of this great charity. I’d like to thank Tesco Liverpool One for the donation – I really appreciate it and | know the charity will, too.”

Shoppers at the Hanover Street store were given the chance to win money, gift cards and concert tickets in competitions ran by Radio City that were present at the store all day.

Liverpool’s first city centre superstore employs 170 staff.

Store manager, Peter Green said: “The opening was fantastic. Keith was loud, bubbly and full of energy. He was great with the customers and helped relax nervous staff before the opening.”
