Alker told jurors he had only seen intimate pictures of Mr Causer and his ex-boyfriend after O’Connor’s second attack and had been unaware he was gay.
During the early morning of July 25 last year, O’Connor and another teenager, Michael Binsteed, carried a heavily bleeding Mr Causer from the house and dumped in the street.
They told police he had been attacked by three unknown men.
Emergency surgery to remove a blood clot on the brain was unable to save Mr Causer and he died at Walton neurological centre from massive head injuries eight days after the attack.
Following yesterday’s verdicts, High Court judge Mr Justice King released Alker from the dock.
He told the court he would fix a day to sentence O’Connor and Binsteed, 18, of Evelyn Avenue, Prescot, who admitted perverting the course of justice, at a later date.
