Delight for Wirral couple targeted by burglars as stolen treasures are returned

A WIRRAL couple have been reunited with treasured family heirlooms after a £10,000 burglary at their home last month.

The haul, taken on January 4 while David and Margaret Bigmore attended a church service, included a watch and two Second World War medals awarded to David’s father, Geoffrey.

The Wallasey couple, who will celebrate their 47th wedding anniversary in April, also lost jewellery given to Margaret by her mother and aunt.

Police discovered some of their possessions last week at a house in Wallasey, and have arrested two men in connection with the burglary.

Mrs Bigmore, 70, a retired teacher, said: “We’re so happy to see these things again because they have a lot of memories associated with them.”

Sergeant Lee Wilkinson, of Merseyside Police, said: “Returning items like this to two such deserving owners gives me a huge amount of job satisfaction.”
