DRUNK and vulnerable children hanging around the streets were taken home by police during a nationwide police crackdown.
Across Merseyside, 62 children were picked up by police over the weekend and taken to a place of safety.
These included a group of 11 and 12-year-olds who were causing a disturbance outside a McDonald’s in north Liverpool and two young girls who were drunk.
Operation Staysafe was carried out across north Liverpool, St Helens and Knowsley last Friday and Saturday night.
In Knowsley, 29 children were picked up including two who had to be taken to hospital for alcohol consumption and seven who were found drinking in public.
Working with social services, Merseyside police collect young people who may be at risk of becoming victims of crime or involved in criminal behaviour themselves.
