Marchers unite in friendship to fight breast cancer

TWO Liverpool women, whose families have been devastated by breast cancer, are leading the way in the annual Mersey March Friendship Walk to raise funds for research.

Janice Melia and Christiana Bennett have organised the 5km walk in Calderstones Park for the Breast Cancer Campaign. Mrs Melia, 35, from Norris Green, lost her mother to breast cancer at the age of 55, and her grandmother also died of the disease.

Mrs Bennett, 35, from Woolton, has supported her mother, who has been fighting breast cancer for the past 12 years.

She said: “Given the success of last year’s event, it was without question that we did the walk again.”

The walk starts at 11am, Sunday, March 8, at the Coach House. Registration is £10 per adult and £2.50 for under-16s.

Everyone is encouraged to wear pink on the day.
