Legacy of Liverpool Capital of Culture is a happier city

THE man in charge of Liverpool’s Capital of Culture year legacy last night said he wanted the enduring effect of the showcase year to be a happier and healthier city.

Cllr Gary Millar, enterprise and tourism leader, was speaking following the council’s announcement to hand £8.45m to arts groups over the next two years, maintaining spending levels during the Capital of Culture Year.

The emphasis has been on better for value for money for council tax payers, with the bids scrutinised on how arts organisations can support the city’s vision for culture and regeneration in return for the council sponsoring individual and organisational creative genius.

One of the first changes following Capital of Culture has been to replace the Liverpool Culture Company with an in- house arts unit called Culture Liverpool.
