LFC runner takes on Des Sables Sahara challenge for Zoes Place

A LIVERPOOL FC business manager is facing up to a gruelling 152 mile desert race across the Sahara.

Jonathan Kane, 32, has just four weeks until he sets off on the Des Sables multi marathon across Morocco.

The race has a fiercesome reputation and each competitor knows their life is on the line if something goes wrong.

But Mr Kane, Liverpool’s head of international development, has few fears.

He said: "There’s three reasons that convinced me to get involved.

"It’s an opportunity to raise money for charity, it’s a way of getting to a high level of fitness and it’s a real adventure."

The adventure includes sand storms, possible heat exhaustion, and even the chance of getting lost.

Mr Kane said: "They’ve only lost one person for more than 24 hours in the years the competition has been going.

"He survived by eating dead bats and was found in Algeria.

"Heat exhaustion is a real problem. Someone lapsed into a coma and had to be airlifted by helicopter last year."
