Pancake chefs in frying finish

LIVERPOOL’S top chefs gathered at St Nicholas Church gardens, at the Pier Head yesterday, to take part in the annual pancake race.

After having taken place for several decades, the annual Shrove Tuesday race was abandoned before being revived a few years ago.

The winning chef was Dean Talbot-Bennett, from the Crowne Plaza hotel. Other participants came from Heathcotes and the Liverpool One development.

Mr Talbot-Bennett received a large frying pan which will be put on display at the Crowne Plaza until the next pancake race is held, as well as a small copper pan, inscribed with his name, which he can keep.

Rector of St Nick’s, Rev Stephen Brookes, said: “This is always a popular event which attracts quite a crowd.”
