Charge of the Light Brigade memorabilia fetches £4,400 at Liverpool auction

MEMORABILIA from a Cheshire veteran of the Charge of the Light Brigade has been sold at auction for £4,400.

Thomas Wright was born in Warrington and ended his days in Widnes, and his Crimea Medal with Alma, Balaklava, Inkerman and Sebastopol clasps has been in the family ever since.

The Charge of the Light Brigade is remembered as a disastrous charge of British cavalry in 1854 during the Crimea War, led by Lord Cardigan, from which few survived.

The cherished items in the auction also included a photo, entitled Three of the Six Hundred, and a book, On Service at Home and Abroad.

Liverpool-based specialist auctioneer Steve Lee said there had been much interest in the sale, which took place in Carlisle, and although he could not say who the successful bidder was, he confirmed it was a local museum.
