A PRIMARY school has had its failing tag lifted, thanks to the intervention of a head teacher who juggled the management of two schools.
Government inspectors have lifted an improvement notice issued to Knowsley Village primary school, in Prescot, after hailing the “inspirational leadership” of Catherine Fairhurst.
She became its executive head last April, despite still running top-performing Prescot Primary School, nearly two miles away.
At that time, the Knowsley Village was subject to a 12- month notice to Improve, from inspectors who said the school required “significant improvement.”
On her arrival, the national curriculum was abandoned in favour of more engaging and personal lessons. Her juggling act included contending with government inspections at both her schools in the same week.
The school has gone from a rating of “inadequate” to “good” in just 15 months.
Inspectors also noted the “exemplary” behaviour of pupils
“It just needed a vision,” a modest Miss Fairhurst said.
