Knowsley council in children in care information blunder

Documents detailing children in care were sent to the wrong address

AN investigation was underway today after sensitive documents revealing the details of children in care were mailed to a member of the public by mistake.

They included names, addresses, contact telephone numbers and information about visiting arrangements for children in the care of Knowsley council.

A Huyton man, who can only be named as Mr Jones for legal reasons, told how he received two brown envelopes from the council addressed to him at his home.

When he opened them he was horrified to discover information about two vulnerable youngsters.

Knowsley council today blamed an “administrative error” for the “extremely regrettable” mistake and said a full investigation was underway.

Mr Jones said he was shocked when he realised what was inside the envelopes.

He added: “I got these envelopes and when I opened them they related to kids in care who had been taken off their parents.

“It had their names, addresses, telephone numbers, dates of birth, information about their parents, how they were getting on in school.”
