WEEKEND parking will be free in parts of Merseyside if a major action plan is given the go-ahead.
Sefton Council has put together a series of proposals designed to safeguard the borough from the harsh effects of Britain’s economic downturn.
Included in the plan is the scrapping of parking charges in some of the council’s car parks at weekends and public holidays for three months, to lure shoppers into the town centres.
If senior council members agree, Southport park and ride services would be free at weekends and public holidays for 12 weeks.
Parking would be free at council-operated car parks in Crosby on Saturday, from 10.30am onwards, for the same period.
And the introduction of barrier parking in Crosby would be brought forward.
This would see people pay for the time spent in the car park on exit, rather than having to pay for set periods of time up front as they arrive.
