Man jailed for machete attack at Wirral train station

THE man who mercilessly hacked at a passenger’s head and body on a Merseyside train with a machete has been jailed.

Michael Lewis laughed and waved the weapon threateningly at his victim moments before assaulting him at West Kirby station.

The 39-year-old set about the passenger, 27, after Lewis had deliberately barged into him and punched him in the face.

The armed attacker was arrested by police and bailed pending further enquiries, but he fled the country to Holland.

The Netherlands authorities apprehended him and handed him back into the custody of British Transport Police officers.

Lewis, of no fixed abode, was recently jailed for 12 months at Liverpool Crown Court after admitting grievous bodily harm.
