TWO teenagers have been expelled from Merchant Taylors’ School accused of dealing cannabis.

The 16 and 17-year-old boys were thrown out following reports that they had sold the class B drug to a younger pupil.

He has now been suspended, and headmaster David Cook has taken a special assembly in a bid to avoid rumours about the incident.

It is believed the matter came to light last week. And the incident happened outside the school.

A police spokesperson said: “ Merchant Taylors’ school has notified officers regarding the exclusion of two pupils and the punishment of another. This follows an alleged incident outside of school, involving cannabis.

“Officers are working with the school to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident and to determine if any offences have been committed.”

“No complaints have been made and we are working closely with the school to resolve this situation.”

Crosby’s oldest school has been quick to act in the wake of the incident.

Headmaster Mr Cook said: “We have a clearly defined policy and do not tolerate any incidents involving drugs, both inside and outside the school.

“These boys were found to be in breach of this policy and therefore have been excluded.”

Outlining the Merchant Taylors’ policy on drug use, Mr Cook said: “Dealing with drug-related issues is a problem for every school in the country and for society generally.

“At Merchant Taylors’, we try to achieve the difficult balance between educating our pupils about the risks and harm that drugs can cause, and safeguarding our boys.

“We follow government guidelines in relation to drug and alcohol advice to all students.

“Annually we invite an outside expert to come in and talk to the boys in years 9,10 and 11 about issues surrounding drug and alcohol abuse. Parents are also invited to a separate session.”
