AT LEAST 1,200 pupils in the village of Tarporley, near Chester, will miss a day of school after a major water main was severed by contractors.
Almost 200 children at Tarporley CE Primary School were sent home yesterday morning after problems developed with the water supply to the school.
The school re-opened today after supplies were restored yesterday afternoon. However, the parents’ evening, which was due to be held tonight, has been cancelled.
At Tarporley High School, around 1,000 pupils will have to stay at home today while the school’s header tanks are purged.
Yesterday, the school provided bottled water to pupils.
With such a large number of pupils, it would have been impossible to inform all parents of a closure, so the decision was taken to cope throughout the afternoon using the bottled water and bowsers supplied by United Utilities.
