A GROUP of creative pupils from a Liverpool girls’ school have flown out to Ireland to deliver a message of peace.
The 13 girls from Holly Lodge Girls’ College in West Derby travelled out to Castlebar in County Mayo, to hand deliver a 13 piece mosaic yesterday that will become a Peace Path.
Ryanair flew the party over from Liverpool John Lennon Airport free of charge.
Headteacher Julie Tinsley said: “It’s been a beautiful way to round off a long running project.”
The girls aged between 13 and 18-years-old made the mosaic as part of a project for the Capital of Culture, but it was only when the school found out about Castlebar’s Peace Park that it became clear where its future lay.
The students started the project in 2007 when teachers and pupils looked at opportunities to make a major and lasting input to the 2008 European Capital of Culture.
