STUDENTS at two of Liverpool’s universities are joining forces to protest next Wednesday about course cuts.
Liverpool John Moores students approached their Liverpool University counterparts yesterday in a bid to show a united front about the loss of degrees at both of the universities from September.
JMU announced last week that it was in a period of consultation to look into cutting 34 courses, while Liverpool University announced the closure of its politics, communications and statistics departments
Joint honours student Lorraine Orr, 28, from Edinburgh, said: “We held a meeting today to discuss the cuts and decided to try and get the students at the University of Liverpool on board too. We feel if we work together on this, we will make a bigger impact.
“We plan to meet at the Haigh Building (LSU), in Maryland Street, on Wednesday, March 25, and head to the Vice Chancellor’s office with our protests.
“We see the cuts as unnecessary and unfair. We are protesting at the lack of transparency between the administration, the tutors and the students.
“The decision the university has made was done without consultation of students and the staff.
“We want to make our opinions heard and are grateful that Liverpool University students agreed to mobilise and demonstrate with us next week.
“There is a greater strength in numbers.”
