Director of Communication for JMU, Janet Martin, reiterated in a statement released last week that the course cuts were simply part of normal practice.
She said: “It is normal for a university to make course cuts. On average, we cut between five and 10 a year. There is a higher number this year because the university is full.
“If we have over a certain number of students, we incur penalties. We did consult with affected staff and we can promise that current students will continue to have the same level of teaching.
“It is unfortunate we have been grouped with Liverpool University.”
