HOLLYWOOD star and celebrated stage actor Jonathan Pryce is returning to the Everyman Theatre later this year in a role he says he has always wanted to portray in Liverpool.
The 61-year-old, who started his acting career at the theatre in 1972, will play the lead in Harold Pinter’s The Caretaker in October. To find out more about Jonathan Pryce, click here.
His appearance follows the sell-out success of fellow Everyman alumnus Pete Postlethwaite as King Lear last year.
It was announced yesterday alongside the Everyman and Playhouse’s summer programme, which includes Mersey Poet Roger McGough’s second interpretation of a Moliere play.
Pryce, who was rehearsing in London, said: “This is where everything started for me. It was the most exciting and innovative theatre in the country committed to the local population.
“Last year, Chris Morahan (the play’s director) asked me if I had ever thought of playing Davies in The Caretaker.
“I said yes – and I want to do it in Liverpool.”
As well as enjoying a critically acclaimed stage career – he won a Tony Award for his portrayal of The Engineer in Miss Saigon – Pryce has starred in big-budget Hollywood productions including Evita, Tomorrow Never Dies and the Pirates of the Caribbean.
