THE team behind the popular crystal spider that was suspended above Exchange Flags has won a national lighting award.
The Web of Light was created for last year’s Liverpool Biennial art festival, but was so popular that it was left in place for a extra 12 weeks.
It was designed by Beijing Olympics Bird’s Nest stadium co-designer Ai Weiwei but was constructed by design consultancy Arup, whose Liverpool team also designed the lighting.
It won the Special Projects category at the Lighting Design Awards in London.
The judges said: “This is a compelling piece of public art whose well-judged and executed lighting is intrinsic to its success.”
