Liverpool's ‘Idol’ councillors raise £1,000-plus for Lord Mayor’s good causes

CITY leaders last night took to the stage for the first ever “Councillor Idol” in aid of the Lord Mayors’ charities.

Proving they are as adept as singers as the are as politicians, they raised more than £1,000 for good causes, and, despite some sore losers demanding a recount and claims of a fix, Labour’s Cllr Sharon Sullivan won with her rendition of Cole Porter’s Every Time we Say Goodbye.

The competition was judged by former Big Brother star Craig Phillips and Liverpool playwright Dave Kirby.

Up to 100 councillors, officers and members of the public turned out for the event at the city’s Sir Thomas Hotel.

Second and third places went to Labour’s Cllr Jim Noakes and the Lib Dem’s Lynny Williams for their versions of Forever in Blue Jeans and the Katrina and the Waves hit, Walking on Sunshine.

Cllr Noakes said: “I’m gutted. I was robbed it’s all I’ve ever dreamed of.”

Lord Mayor Cllr Steve Rotherham said he was delighted with the support that his charities had received from those who attended the event.
