ONE in three Britons is worried their home may be repossessed, with three-quarters of people claiming the Government should do more to help struggling home-owners, a survey showed today.
Around 35% of people with a mortgage say they are worried to some degree that they may lose their property.
Six out of 10 workers said they were concerned they or their partner may lose their job, with 43% saying they would not be able to keep up with their mortgage if the main earner in their household was out of work.
A quarter of homeowners are also worried they could go into negative equity during the coming year.
Problems in the housing market have also highlighted the risks of borrowing a high proportion of their property’s value, with 77% saying they thought 100% mortgages should be banned.
