Liverpool FC ace Steven Gerrard set to appear before Southport magistrates over alleged bar brawl

LIVERPOOL FC star Steven Gerrard was set to appear in court today over a late-night bar brawl.

The England midfielder, 28, was one of seven men due to answer bail to Southport magistrates’ court this morning.

They all stand charged over an inci-dent at the Lounge Inn, in Bold Street in the resort, in the early hours of December 29.

Marcus McGee, 34, from Churchtown, required hospital treatment after receiving facial injuries.

Gerrard and others were arrested in nearby Lord Street.

Gerrard, of Formby, has already indicated he will deny charges of assault and affray.

He was set to be joined byJohn Doran, 29, of Woodlands Road, Ian Gerard Smith, 19, of Hilary Avenue, Paul McGrattan, 31, of Linden Drive, and John McGrattan, 33, of Rimmer Avenue, all Huyton; Accrington Stanley footballers Ian Dunbavin, 28, of Guildford Road, South-port; and Bobby Grant, 18, of Enstone Avenue, Litherland.

All have previously been granted conditional bail.

The case is expected to be committed to the Crown Court today.

Officers also warned of cordons and possible road closures around the building.
