Liverpool city centre free parking loophole to be closed

AS ANY motorist will know, parking regulations are vigorously enforced by Liverpool city council’s traffic wardens.

But that hasn’t stopped a parking “free-for-all” developing in the heart of the city centre over the past few months.

It came about after the £1bn Liverpool One development saw existing parking restrictions in surrounding streets suspended to allow delivery and construction vehicles to do their work without being fined.

Once word got around that it was possible to park for free, the narrow roads on the periphery of the Grosvenor complex became choked with vehicles of every description, some of which had nothing to do with Liverpool One.

Now the city council has vowed to “get tough” by introducing an 18-month experimental traffic regulation order to deal with parking restrictions in the Seel Street area.
