MANY Merseyside hospitals have seen a reduction in cases of MRSA, according to latest figures.
Health Protection Agency (HPA) statistics show between October and December, 2008, Aintree Hospital reported five cases, compared with nine during the same period in 2007.
At Arrowe Park, four cases were recorded during the same period, compared with six the previous year, and, at St Helens and Knowsley hospitals, two cases were reported, a drop of nine on the previous year.
Rates at the Royal Liverpool Hospital remained static, with 10 cases reported in both periods.
Overall rates reduced nationally.
A spokesperson from the Health Protection Agency said: “This continued reduction in cases of MRSA is testament to the huge efforts being made across the NHS to tackle the problem of healthcare associated infections.
“To ensure this downward trend continues, we cannot be complacent. We must all play our part.”
