MERSEYRAIL’S Wirral loop line will be closed for more than a month from Good Friday.
Network Rail says the closure will let it complete £3.4m of work on a project started in 2005.
The two organisations say they have timed the disruption to bridge several bank holidays and minimise inconvenience for commuters.
But, between Friday, April 10, and Tuesday, May 26, trains travelling under the Mersey from Wirral and Chester will terminate at James Street, before reversing back to Wirral.
Merseyrail said it will provide a bus service to Lime Street for those due to embark on the national network and for Northern Line connections, but there will be no similar facility for passengers using Liver-pool Central or Moorfields.
Tony Garrett, secretary of Wirral Transport Users Association, said: “It’s a great inconvenience to have this again.”
Network Rail says the work is the fifth and final stage of a five-year, £20m project that was held off last year to avoid damaging Capital of Culture events.
