TWO people were rescued from a terraced home fire this morning in a semi-conscious state after breathing in heavy smoke.
Merseyside Fire and Rescue was called to the house in Langbar, Whiston at 5.25am.
Watch manager Mick Currin from Whiston fire station said firefighters did a "amazing job" to drag the 20-year-old man and 20-year-old woman from the home due to the thickness of the smoke.
The pair were taken to Whiston hospital suffering from the affects of severe smoke inhalation.
A 49-year-old man, a 42-year-old woman, and a 16-year-old girl all managed to escape from the property. They were also taken to hospital.
It is currently suspected that an electrical fault started the fire, but the cause is still under investigation.
Mr Currin said: "When we arrived several people in the street informed us that there were people trapped in the back bedrooms.
"It was not a particularly severe fire as fires go, but it was incredibly smoke logged with very thick smoke.
"They were semi-conscious because of the smoke.
"They looked fairly poorly at the time of rescue. The crews did an amazing job getting them out in what was a very restrictive environment.
"The investigating team are there now. Nothing has been ruled in or out, but we are probably looking at an electrical fire, but that’s speculation at the moment."
